Awkward Season 3: Surprise (Ep. 11) Review

Last night Awkward came back and I couldn’t be happier. I stayed up and set my DVR to record it. Why did I record it and not watched when it air? You might ask. Well the answer is simple: MTV plays way too many commercials. It’s one the biggest reasons I stay away from that network. Anyway back to Awkward. The first episode of the second half of season 3 started off with a bang.

WARNIG THERE’S SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT. SO IF YOU STILL HAVEN’T WATCHED STOP READING.

Quick Recap: It’s been 31 hours since Jenna kissed Collin. They both know it is wrong, but somehow they can’t stop kissing. Every time they agree they can’t do it anymore they begin to make-out. Of course Matty has no idea what’s going on. Actually it looked like everyone else knew, except for him and Jake.

Jenna is turning seventeen and her mother wants to throw her a surprise party without ruining the surprise. Meanwhile Tamara is dealing with having to keep secretes, which is causing her to over eat and yell out things like, “I have a yeast infection.” It is Tamara who tells Jenna about her surprise party.

Then there’s Ming. She’s enjoying being the head of the Chinese Mafia. She’s even got a whole new Hollywood hair-do to go with her powerful title. Fred is back and is not happy about Ming’s new power but agrees to be with her anyway. I have to say my favorite part of the Ming character is getting to see her crazy hats.

Anyway, Matty is still the perfect boyfriend. He even gets Collin to help him buy a special birthday present for Jenna. He really is clueless about everything that is happening. Even when he sees them holding hands he doesn’t seem to question it.

The episode builds up to the cliffhanger ending: Jenna walks into her house with her lips locked on Collin’s only to find out the surprise party is still on. Everyone at the party gets to see them kissing, including Matty. Talk about DRAMA.

My Opinion: Ok I know I’m in the minority when I say I actually like Collin. I know it’s not right that Jenna is cheating on Matty, but I kind of understand it. Please don’t think I condone cheating. I do think Jenna should have told Matty the truth the minute she kissed Collin. But I also understand why she digging Collin. Besides him being HOT, he’s also exciting. Matty at times can be too perfect and sort of boring. It’s likes he’s made his whole world about Jenna and that edge he had season 1 is gone. I will admit it was disturbing to see Matty be so nice to Collin. Now with that said I’m sure as I watch the next couple of episodes I’m going to switch to team Matty. I don’t want to see him hurt. Hopefully he’ll get mad and tell Jenna off. I don’t know I’m so confused. I like them both.

Anyway I loved Ming and her new power. I even like her new hair. I really hope they keep Fred around for awhile. They are too cute together. I still love Tamara, but I’m so over her with Jake. They just bore me together. Sadie is still my favorite villain. One minute I can’t stand her and the next minute I love her. She has the best lines. And she inspires me to walk around saying  “You welcome.”

I have to say my two favorite characters from last night’s show has to be Jenna’s mom and Valerie. They bring a different kind of humor to the show. It looks like it’s going to be an exciting season. I can’t wait for Tuesdays.

BEST LINE OF THE EPISODE “You got it L-Dog. I will take our girl to my favorite dive bar. Put a little hair on her chest and then drop her off.” ~ Valerie

Author’s Studio with S.K. Anthony

I’m back with another Author’s Studio. I always love the part of the Actor’s Studio when the host asks the actors questions from the list of Proust Questionnaire. It’s a great way to see who these actors really are without them promoting their latest movie or project. So I thought what better way for readers to get to know an author better too. Every two weeks I will introduce you to an author and together we will probe into their minds. This week I’m excited to talk to S.K. Anthony author of the very thrilling and sexy book Kinetic (The Luminaries).

HERE’S A LITTLE ABOUT S.K.

S. K. Anthony is a writer, a reader and a make-stuff-up-er who lives in New York with her husband and toddler twins. She is a wine connoisseur, which just really means she knows she loves it, and a caffeine addict. When she isn’t busy with her family she finds herself being transported into the world of imagination. Well, either that or running away from spiders…she is convinced they are out to get her!

And Now It’s Time For:

author's studio

1.What is your favorite word?

Love. Because why not? It’s the most hopeful word I can think of.

2. What is your least favorite word?

Hate. It’s too negative.

3. What turns you on?

Laughter. Make me laugh and I’m yours. Well not really, I’m already married and all that o_O

4. What turns you off?

Hate. I know I already used the word, but life is too short for such negativity. Go live, people! Enjoy your loved ones, ignore the “downers” and be happy.

5. What sound do you love?

My kids’ laughter.

6. What sound do you hate?

My alarm clock.

7. What is your favorite curse word?

Well, I don’t have a foul mouth… but I do enjoy the versatility of the F word. You can use it for just about any expression and emotional feeling. If you are happy, sad, angry or doing something awesome, you can always find a good use for the word.

8. What profession other than yours would you like to attempt?

A millionaire. I would like to attempt being a professional millionaire. Can you make that happen? Please? lol

9. What profession would you not like to do?

I don’t think I want to be a septic cleaner. Nope, I’m sure I don’t want to do that.

10. Tells us something no one knows about you?

Hmm, not sure there are things about me that no one knows… but I suppose we can go with what my poor husband and kids know better than anyone: I’m a passionate singer. A terrible one, but passionate. I stand by my belief though, I sing good but their ears are faulty. #truestory lol.

zombie2-cover2

Ever since the zombie virus hit Emma’s irritatingly boring Midwestern hometown, she’s been on the run with her old best friend-turned-boyfriend Finn. On their journey, they’ve witnessed some pretty disgusting deaths, narrowly escaped life-threatening escapades that sometimes included one of their own pulling a gun on them numerous times, and redefined the definition of what makes up a family (as it turns out, soldiers and geeks can be pretty decent). They’ve even learned the disturbing truth behind the mysterious virus. But after Emma was bit by one of the infected trying to save her neighbor boy, she was told she would not have long to live.
In the thrilling sequel to The Day Zombies Ruined My Perfectly Boring Life, Finn will help to tell the story as Emma and the gang are faced with the most crucial life-changing decisions yet. They’ll come across an unfortunate group of rednecks, discover the truth of what happened to Finn’s federal agent mother, and finally see a chance at truly being safe without having to run anymore. But in the middle of it all, Emma and Finn’s relationship will soar to completely uncomfortable levels when Finn takes things one step too far. And between being injected with an unknown liquid, taking on a completely unexpected (and really agitating alliance), and being left for dead by those she loves most, Emma will realize that zombies are the least of her worries.

 Book Description:

Book 3 in the HEARTBEAT series

 Adam is at a crossroads.

He has Katie on his mind and Jada in his bed.

Now with the ultimate choice before him, he must decide between fantasy and reality.

Katie’s his dream girl, but Jada’s his best friend, his partner. As a paramedic, he’s supposed to save lives, not wreck them. Yet his failure to commit leaves a trail of heartache in his wake.

Things come to a head at his brother’s wedding when a surprise announcement leaves Adam scrambling to pick up the pieces. Sure, women find his shaggy blond hair and aquamarine eyes irresistible. But to him, sex is nothing more than a means of escape … until it turns into a psychological trap.

His mind is telling him one thing, while his heart is beating another. He’s not sure what he wants when it comes to a serious relationship. Sorting out his feelings, he finally comes to a startling realization. He is capable of love.

But what if it’s too late?

Excerpt:

His shaggy hair is falling in his eyes as water drips from the ends. The buttons of his shirt are undone and droplets cling to his bare chest. His lips are parted and his blue eyes radiate a mixture of elation and desire. He knows that he’s trespassing where he doesn’t belong, but he doesn’t feel the need to ask anyone’s permission to enter my bedroom either.

I tilt my head and gaze up at him, my hair tumbling over my shoulder. He advances toward me, looking somewhat guilty, bordering on apologetic. He realizes he shouldn’t be here, but he is. And I don’t want him to leave. I like the danger of having him so close.

He blinks and raindrops fall from his eyelashes before running down his face. And that’s all it takes for the sheer happiness of the moment to light up my face. I rush toward him as he greets my smile with one of his own. Its sincerity warms my heart as he looks at me like he’s just completed the longest journey of his life, filled with relief at finally reaching his destination. He’s come home. He’s where he’s supposed to be. And if I’m being honest with myself, I feel like I’ve been waiting for him all along.

The force pulling me to him is too strong to ignore. I don’t fight it. I give into it. I let it take me over. I stride up to him, reaching up on my toes, my fingers dancing across his neck as I take his lips with mine. Pressing myself into him, the front of my white t-shirt is soaked instantly. But instead of experiencing any kind of chill, I feel like I’m burning up.

The kiss is gentle this time, lasting only a few seconds before he draws me into a hug, laying his sopping head against my shoulder while wrapping his arms around my waist, drawing me as close as he possibly can to his body. He winces when I squeeze him back tightly, causing him to loosen his grip on me and step away. I reach up one hand at a time to examine his face as he tries to look down, refusing to meet my gaze. Finally, he gives me a mournful smile as I persist. Silencing my worries, he runs a hand lightly across my face before bringing me in for another kiss. He’s so careful with me, so tender. He breaks away to smile at me again, a look of wonderment in his eyes, before resuming our kiss.

Slowly releasing my lips, I allow my hands to roam down his chest as I start to tug on his shirt. He complies with my request, but he seems to be in pain as I help remove the sleeves from his arms. I glance up at him in concern, and he whispers, “My ribs. They were broken not too long ago. I don’t think they ever fully healed.”

He hangs his wet shirt on the bedpost as I run my hand gently over his chiseled abs. He bends his head to the side, closing his eyes. He doesn’t open them as I glide my fingers over the scar on his forehead, where undoubtedly he had stitches at one time. My heart contracts as I ponder what happened to him. He submits to my touch, moving his head along the path of my fingertips, yielding to my efforts to examine him. He doesn’t resist, but I can sense he doesn’t want me to linger on his injuries either.

His hair appears darker now that it’s wet, and I can’t help twisting my fingers through the strands at the back of his neck as he rests his forehead against mine. He’s so close to me. All I can see are his eyes. He leans back, pushing my hair away from my face. The way he is looking at me is like he’s taking in every part of me. It’s hard for him to keep his lips off mine as he brushes a featherweight kiss across them. It feels so intense. I have to look down for a minute.

When I’m ready to meet his eyes again, his hands travel up my sides, encouraging me to lift my arms. I do so, and within seconds, his fingers are at the hem of my shirt, pulling it up and over my head in one swift movement. I help him free my long hair from inside the collar, reaching behind me to hold it up, trying not to think about my bare breasts being visible. He drinks in every inch of me, and that smile is back on his face as his hands caress my back. This time, it’s Adam who lifts my hair away, entwining it through his fingers while resting his chin on my shoulder, allowing his free hand to roam the full expanse of my back from shoulder to hip. I slide my arms around his lean, muscular body as he buries his face against my neck. When he stands upright again, he nuzzles my ear as I extend a trail of kisses along his jaw. He sighs in contentment as his stubble bristles against my lips.
